After a couple days of no replies, I'm in the depression phase of my "manic depression". Uh, you know, those days where you feel like nobody loves you, nobody wants you, "you'll never find work again" feelings, etc. These days, it feels more like "massive depression" rather than manic, because there are no manic days. Just ADHD days. Like it feels like I don't accomplish anything. I'm not "officially" these things, just feeling these things. And, well, just feel like expressing them feels better than holding them in any more...
Today, Zack Arnold released a couple of new podcasts under his new branding, The Zack Arnold Podcast. I listened to the first one. I like the idea of a purpose-driven life, so I wish him luck with the new direction and I can say the first part of the podcast lifted my spirits a little, so that's cool.
I crock-potted a roast for my family's dinner tonight and cooked up some carne asada for various reasons, one being breakfast burritos today. My Ozempic delivery was delayed, so I'm trying to manage my glucose levels strictly with insulin this week. It's a bit more tricky but I think I'm doing okay. I drop my daughter off at school and then go back home so that my son can drive to school and I drive his car back home (he's got a learner's permit right now). Then after my wife and I ate the carne asada and egg and cheese burritos, we drove to pick up some stockings for my daughter for circus. She'll have three weeks of performances, aerial and teeterboard this season. She has rehearsal tonight and my son has jazz and drumline practice tonight. Grandma and mom will handle chauffeur duties tonight, as I'll be in LA for LACPUG. And tomorrow is LA all day for Key Code's Post-NAB event and the Hollywood Horrorfest meetup. I don't know if I'll make Zack's Friday night meetup, but I do want to say congrats to him in person. I know meeting up with people tonight and tomorrow will life my spirits, so I'm looking forward to these events.
I currently have about 12 "active" applications out there. More than half of which I've sent in the last week, up to and including some yesterday. They are not all assistant editor positions some are tech positions.
This morning, I listened to a couple podcasts while getting ready. One from Chase Jarvis and one from Yuhei Ogawa. I also read an excerpt from Who Not How. These kind of reminded me that I should focus and really be intentional in what I'm going after. That then reminded me that whenever I review the book, The Science of Getting Rich, what I call the secret to "The Secret", that I always get a job offer.
So today, I'll be reviewing that book and work more on my "all goals" list, which is a list of everything I want to accomplish. That is a work in progress that I'm still putting together and defining and prioritizing. And I'll be working more on my Trailer Editing course on Shambala.
This week, my intention is to go to LACPUG and Key Code Media's Post-NAB event. Hope to see you there.
EP201P completed and have a bunch of applications out for PP AE work, and some other jobs too. Time's running out... Come on job gods.
This week, there's a couple events I want to go to: LACPUG and then Key Code Media's Post-NAB event.
This last week, I hit a couple events: American Gigolo with Richard Halsey, ACE and MPEG's Mixer (followed by Cuts & Cups). Those were fun.
I'm still trying to figure life out. I'm re-grouping, making a list of everything I want to do. Trello is my friend.
Yesterday, my kids and their school's Indoor Drumline won third place in the State competition. Very proud of them. Today, they're having fun with their cousin at Revenge of the Sith's 20th anniversary at the El Capitan Theatre.
Last week, I completed PR250 and PR201: Adobe Premiere Pro II. This week, I'm taking EP201P - Assistant Editor Essentials, Premiere Pro.
Also, on Saturday, I went to the MPEG Bowling meetup. That was a lot of fun. After the meeting, I hung out with a fellow editor friend and we talked about career goals, etc. He is working on writing and the ideas sounded very cool to me. I have done a little bit of writing and have a script that I have been working on for a number of years, here and there. This and storytelling in general have me re-thinking how I want to be present in the world.
Tonight, I start Adobe Premiere Pro for Experienced Editors AKA PR250, from Key Code Education. It's a four-day online class.
Today, I am reviewing here: https://www.adobe.com/learn/premiere-pro/web/create-edit-sequence?learnIn=1
Today, I went to watch my kids perform in a drumline competition. It's that season and once every few Saturdays, I'm there, filming and cheering them on.
This coming week, I'll be taking two Adobe Premiere classes through Key Code Education. These are classes that I will be being reimbursed for from Contract Services. I want to say it's been about a year since I've learned that this was possible and started taking advantage of the free training! Thanks Sam B!
